Baking Frenzy

Last Thanksgiving, after some spectacular kitchen mishaps, I vowed that I was done cooking orange vegetables. So, tonight instead of baking pumpkin pies, I taught Delaney how to make them. Yes, my ten year old made the pumpkin pie this year. And she did a great job! Actually the are the nicest looking pumpkin pies to come out of my oven in years.

Then I taught her how to make pecan pie and that turned out nicely too. Things were going so well that we moved on to a recipe that her teacher sent home.

Left over pie crust and chocolate chips make some really rich cookies!

And, since the oven was still hot, we made Shrinky Dinks too! It was a fun and successful evening. Tomorrow I am subbing the yams out to Zane so there really is a chance that I might get through this holiday without setting anything on fire...

WOWWWWWZA.... Gina, you are a baker extraordinaire, and bonus that you're sharing your skills with your kids. I am so envious.

I do mostly Betty Crocker and Pillsbury. Pathetic, eh? I was looking at a beautiful Cherry Red Kitchenaid mixer at Costco on sale this week, but I told myself I didn't bake enough. Even the fact that it would look smashing in my kitchen didn't sway me. Didn't I show magnificent restraint?

Have a wonderful thanksgiving!!!

Those are some seriously delicious looking pies!! Kudos to you Mom for moving some of the responsibility away from yourself!!
And those left-over pie crust cookies? Brings back such memories of Granny's cinnamon-sugar and butter pies for us kids...ooh...but the chocolate chips? me thinks a biteful of Heaven!!
Happy Thanksgiving to you and all yours...what a lot you have to be thankful for, huh? :-)

Those are gorgeous pies! Did she do the crusts from scratch?

Happy Thanksgiving to all of you.

Oh Karen.. I probably shouldn't encourage you to loosen your restraint but I have to tell you that the Kitchenaid mixer was the best purchase I have ever made. It's because of the mixer that I started baking. My mixer is twelve years old and still in great shape even though I use it constantly. My only complaint is that it's boring white.

Debbie, Yes we really do have a lot to be thankful for this year and being thankful for helpful children is a huge added bonus.

Jenn, I did the crust and she made the filling. Crust is my favorite part but i have a bad reputation when it comes to pie filling. This may be a perfect solution.

Those pies are specatacular! I make mine by scratch, too, and they are delicious, but my crust never keeps it's scalloped shape as nicely as yours did.
