It's just a number

Delaney and her friend were having a conversation about birthdays this afternoon. My dear nine year old said "My mom turned 43 on her birthday!" and her delightful friend said "Oh! My Grandma turned 46 on her last birthday!"

For some reason they both thought this little coincidence was very funny.

Rotten whipper-snappers.

Holy crap! Are you kidding me? A 46 year-old grandmother?!?! Sooner than I really care to think about, I will be turning 46....can you just send me some of that "cheesecake on a spoon" NOW?!?!?

How about this one? Being at the playground with your toddler and being asked if you're the grandmother!!! (I was 41 when I had my daughter)

Oh, life is cruel... :)

46 and a grandma? She must have had her kids when she was a baby herself.
Evil kids ;). Forties are the new twenties, ladies. Be proud!

my grandma had my mom when she was sixteen and my mom had my brother when she was 18. So, my grandma became a grandparent at the very young age of 34. We called her "Bettyma" because she didn't want to be called grandma. However, she died at 46, so I think it was meant to be. My mom became a grandparent at the age of 39.

As for me, I remain hopeful that I won't be a grandparent anytime soon :)

When you do the math it's really not that shocking. Her grandmother could have had her first child at 18 and that child could have had her first child at 19. Young but still adults. I think the shock to me was primarily because most of my friends have children younger than mine.

I see nothing funny about this...you and I are the same age, mere babes.

I'm 57 and the proud Nana to a 7 year old and a 3 year.Being in my 50's is a great age to be a grandparent.I was 50 when my grandson was born.I was in my mid 20's when my daughters were born which is probably young with today standards.

Today I turned two years older than Delaney's friend's grandma. I'm so depressed. Thanks loads. LOL! My dad reminded me this morning that I'm almost eligible for AARP ... happy birthday to me! ;-)
