Eighteen months ago we moved to Olympia Washington. It's a very odd city. Home to one of the most liberal, liberal arts colleges in the US and home to a huge military population who work at the largest army base in the US. In the last year and a half I have seen hemp festivals and military appreciation parades, peace protests and my neighbors coming home from war. The most surprising thing about Olympia is that, despite it's astounding contradictions, it is the friendliest place I have ever lived. People are genuinely nice here. I'm still getting to know the area but I am happy to call this home.

Where I live...

Hey Gina...so..you are by the water and have "real" mountains...I am so envious!! In Nagasaki, we have 'mountain-wannabes'!!
The picture is just beautiful. And I'm thinking that maybe, just maybe, the "hemp festivals and military appreciation parades" were NOT on the same day!!

We were in Northern California most recently. Before that we were in Washington but north of Seattle, (Olympia is about 60 miles south of Seattle)and before that we were in South Dakota.
Gina...sounds like Olympia is a very nice place to live.Friendly people make a big difference in where you live.Enjoyed your post.
I love Olympia. It does have that yin/yang vibe. If Mr. G. and I ever get to retire, it is on our list of possible places to settle.

Wow. That's quite a dichotomy. Just goes to show that differences aren't what splits people apart. It's how those differences are viewed and handled. Sounds like a cool city. Would love to hear the differences between all the places you've lived.
It looks absolutely lovely Gina! I always find the vibe in college towns so invigorating and hip. Sounds like a wonderful place to live.
